4th international open students Olympiad on programming named after S.A. Lebedev and V.M. Glushkov «KPI-OPEN 2009»

From June 29 till July 4, 2009, National Technical  University of Ukraine «Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» carries out 4th international open students Olympiad on programming named after S.А. Lebedev and V.M. Glushkov «KPI-OPEN 2009». The goal of the contest is attraction of societies attention to the intellectual competitions between students, popularization of intellectual leadership and team spirit, improvement of the professional level of talented youth, development of academic links, and establishing of the contacts between students from different countries, passing of the knowledge from IT-market leaders to students, providing winners with possibility of further improvement of their skills in successful IT-companies working in Ukraine.

Olympiad is carried out based on original evaluation rules, harmonized with international, supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and Cyber Centre of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Specially for the Olympiad specialists of the chair of computing technique of the NTUU “KPI” software Platform has been developed using modern software development technologies. Platform operates on the server, kindly provided by BMS Consulting, reliable partner of KPI-OPEN.

Preliminary online registration was successfully fulfilled by  82 teams from 6 countries of the world (Ukraine, Russian Federation, Belarus, Georgia, Poland). Quantity of people willing to participate in the event has increased comparing to last year and is already more than 300 persons. Organizational committee confirmed registration of 71 team. In year 2009 significantly increased the quantity of Universities, which delegated students to participate in the event, and it is  53 highest education institutions from 30 cities. Totally, during last 4 years of existing of the Olympiad quantity of teams is more than 230. These results make KPI-OPEN 2009 unique, by its scale, students competition on programming in Ukraine.

Important role during conducting the Olympiad is played  by partners support, namely — companies BMS Consulting, SITRONICS Information Technologies, Pocketbook, Master Klass, Wnet.

Prize fund of the Olympiad consists of the certificates for free of charge authorized programs and rights to pass through certification exams in BMS Consulting Academy, unique educational trainings in project management modern network operators infrastructure from Master Klass and SITRONICS Informational Technologies correspondingly, 12 electronic books from Pocketbook, and, traditionally, souvenirs  from NTUU «KPI». Winners team receives  crystal prize KPI-OPEN 2009, tradition of awarding with which was founded in  year 2008.

Wnet, from the first year of founding of the Olympiad, using modern technologies, provides participants and guests of the event with hi-quality wireless broadband access to the internet, and implements broadcasting of the events of Olympiad in Internet.

Support from the information sponsors — TV news channel 24,  information agency UNIAN,  analytical weekly magazine «Computer review», magazines «Домашний ПК», «Компьютерная газета», «Мой Компьютер», «CHIP», «Mobility», «Gameplay», «hi-Tech PRO», and internet-portals   , ITC Online, Easycom, ITWARE, hi-Tech.ua, NOVOSTEY.COM, Overclockers, ITFreak has significantly influenced the image of the Olympiad among society, strengthened status of the event and attracted teams from different regions.

Olympiad has already become an effective platform for solving the tasks and goals being set in front of it. Organizational committee and representatives of companies from year to year are working on improvement of the level of competition by stimulating the youth to the choice of self-improvement, development of internal motivation, and also making wider the knowledge horizons, and offering vectors for further development.

During Olympiad cultural program is organized, including Dnipro river trip, Kyiv city tours, and also, unique by its format event– surprise from  Master Klass – educative game «IT as business» along with jazz concert by Alexey Bogolyubov quartete.
